Akron, OHIO -- Hello! I’m Jordan Kelley, a photographer and journalist currently based in Northeast Ohio and available for assignment.
I’ve recently returned to my hometown of Akron, Ohio after spending the past year discovering and photographing the heart of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. I’ve been staying busy with personal projects and freelance work, but am seeking a full-time job in journalism.
My work has appeared primarily in publications by WOUB Public Media and The Athens NEWS, and in February 2020, a photograph of mine won first place Best News Photo from the Ohio News Media Association.
I graduated from Ohio University in May 2019, where I studied journalism, strategic communications and political science. I created my own specialized degree program focused on developing my storytelling skills in the areas that really interest me. I especially enjoy covering anything political, investigative research and deep dive projects.
While studying in Athens, Ohio, I got my journalistic start photographing and writing for WOUB Public Media, the local NPR affiliate. Working at WOUB gave me the opportunity and encouragement to pursue long-term independent projects while learning the grind of daily news. A little later on, I served as a primary photographer for The Athens NEWS, where I covered local events, campus and Ohio University basketball.
I believe visual storytelling is the most powerful and visceral means of communicating a message. I think the world is a better place when we understand each other, and journalism is a major part of building shared understanding. The dreamer in me strives to create work that helps viewers and readers take a look at life in a way they might not have before.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy making photographs for pleasure, sailing, fencing, soccer and anything to spend quality time with my friends and family.
I’m available for assignments + freelance work or just to chat about whatever. Drop me a line anytime!
